My journey to photograph the Northern Lights at Budakirkja church on the Snaefellsnes Peninsula was filled with anticipation and uncertainty. After days of elusive weather, the skies finally cleared on my last night, offering a glimpse of the ethereal green lights dancing across the heavens. Armed with a long exposure and wide-angle lens, I was able to capture not just the mystical auroras but also the snow-capped mountains framing the scene. This photograph is a testament to the unpredictable beauty of Iceland, where the landscape and sky come together in a display of nature’s artistry.

Budakirkja, the iconic black church on the Snaefellsnes Peninsula, is steeped in Icelandic history and culture. Once nearly abandoned, this historic site has been revitalized as a symbol of the region’s rugged charm. Surrounded by a breathtaking landscape of snow-covered mountains and windswept plains, Budakirkja stands as a solitary sentinel against the elements, embodying the resilience and spirit of Iceland.
