Background information about SUNSET VALLEY
If this sunset had gone on indefinitely, I would probably still be continuing this shoot of the Valley of Tears; conditions could not have been more perfect for the composition I sought, and I was beaming with pride at each image I created.
After all, what better reflection of Iceland’s nature could I ask for? Sunset skies reflecting perfectly on a river, which snaked through a valley torn in an otherwise verdant lava landscape, fuelled by a dozen waterfalls and surrounded by the silhouettes of distant peaks: the wilderness looked like it had been pulled from a fantasy world, which is exactly what makes this country so magnificent. Of course, it wasn’t simply a case of pointing my camera and shooting;
I wanted to fill my composition with all of the facets that made the site so breathtaking. The precipice I took this shot from allowed a perfect view over the whole scene, with the river in the foreground gently leading the eye against its flow, up the waterfalls and to the mountains and heavens above. A long exposure allowed the vividness of the colors to truly reflect on camera and captured the motion of the water spectacularly.
