Diamond Beach in Iceland is a photographer’s paradise, featuring unique ice formations, volcanic black sands, and stunning seascapes. This particular photo was taken during the winter of 2014, at the height of the Holuhraun eruption, a time when Iceland’s natural drama was on full display.
On this morning, just as the sun began to rise, the hazy sky—laden with volcanic particles—transformed into a palette of crimson and amber hues, casting a surreal glow over the landscape. The fiery tones of the sunrise contrasted vividly with the deep blue icebergs resting on the black sands, creating an otherworldly scene.
To convey the serenity of the moment, I lengthened the exposure slightly, capturing the gentle waves' movement while keeping the icebergs' details sharp. Ensuring my camera was perfectly stable, I retained the sculpted details of the icebergs, creating a composition that reflects the beauty of this ethereal Icelandic corner. This meticulous planning and execution allowed me to capture the magical contrasts and the serene atmosphere of Diamond Beach.
