On this calm evening at Jökulsárlón Glacier Lagoon, the aurora painted a gentle ribbon of green across the Arctic sky while the lagoon rested almost perfectly still. Then a remarkable lenticular cloud drifted into view, its smooth, layered shape resembling a celestial visitor floating silently above the glacier. The unusual cloud transformed an otherwise peaceful scene into something almost surreal.

The still water mirrored both the soft aurora and the delicate colours of the night sky, while the distant glacier and snow-covered mountains completed the tranquil Icelandic landscape.

Jökulsárlón Glacier Lagoon is one of Iceland's most extraordinary natural wonders. Formed by the retreat of Breiðamerkurjökull, an outlet glacier of the mighty Vatnajökull ice cap, the lagoon is constantly changing as enormous icebergs break away from the glacier and slowly drift toward the Atlantic Ocean.
