About the Photoshoot

Photographed from above Iceland’s vast southern glacial plains, Arctic Lace reveals the quiet movement of meltwater as it carves its way through ice and volcanic sands. Captured during one of my aerial photography journeys by small aircraft and drone, the image transforms the landscape into an abstract composition of flowing textures and delicate patterns.

Seen from the air, the glacial river becomes almost unrecognizable — resembling veins, woven fabric, or brushstrokes painted across the earth. The soft light and subtle blue tones give the scene a calm, dreamlike atmosphere that invites closer inspection.

About Iceland’s Glacial Rivers

Iceland’s glacial rivers are constantly changing natural systems formed by meltwater flowing from the country’s massive glaciers. Carrying volcanic sediment across the black sand plains of the south coast, these rivers create intricate branching patterns that can only truly be appreciated from above.

Their appearance shifts continuously with the seasons, temperature, and water flow, making every aerial view unique. These rivers are among Iceland’s most iconic abstract landscapes — powerful forces of nature that shape the land while creating fleeting moments of unexpected beauty.
