Capturing the essence of Reykjavik under the midnight sun was an unforgettable experience. The Hallgrimskirkja church, the tallest building in Reykjavik, served as the focal point for this composition. Perched on a hill, the church's prominence is evident as it overlooks the entire city, symbolizing Reykjavik's unique charm and spirit.
Unlike typical photographs that focus on the facade of Hallgrimskirkja, I aimed to capture its commanding presence from behind, emphasizing how it stands guard over the northernmost capital. On a bright, nightless summer night, I set out around midnight to photograph this iconic structure bathed in the beautiful soft light of the midnight sun.
The dramatic clouds in the sky and the slender Esja mountain on the horizon created a stunning backdrop. The deep shades of the church's roof contrasted with the shining midnight sun, producing a mesmerizing interplay of light and dark. The light was bright enough to reveal the intricate details of Hallgrimskirkja, yet soft enough to maintain a balanced and serene composition.
