The journey to this secluded spot is an adventure in itself, requiring a drive through the Kjolur highland road, a challenging route that weaves between the towering glaciers of Langjokull and Hofsjokull. After hours of navigating the rugged terrain, the reward is this serene oasis, a stark contrast to the surrounding barren landscapes.
During the photoshoot, I was mesmerized by the intense blue waters of Eyvindarhver, which seemed to glow against the pale, silica-coated earth. This otherworldly scene, framed by the vastness of the highlands, was captured from above to highlight the intricate details and patterns that make this hot spring so unique. The vibrant colors, intensified by the morning light, give the spring an almost jewel-like quality, truly living up to the name "Diamond Eye."
About Eyvindarhver Hot Spring
Eyvindarhver, a prominent feature of Hveravellir, is known for its dazzling blue waters, surrounded by delicate silica deposits that shimmer in the light. This hot spring is named after the legendary outlaw Eyvindur of the Mountains, who is said to have used the hot springs in the area for warmth during his years of hiding in the highlands. The geothermal activity in this region is intense, with steam vents and boiling springs creating a constantly shifting landscape of colors and textures.
